214Days #152 Colorado Horses
We caught a glimpse of movement in moving through a stand of small trees. As we got closer we saw a couple of horses moving off. Just a little farther down the road we rounded yet another turn and saw the horses and their riders beside us. There was no place to pull over and a car was following. This was the only photo I could snag as we passed them.
We came to another huge bend just as the riders came around the corner. One more second for a second shot. I couldn’t help but marvel at what has to be the very best way to tour the Garden of the Gods. In this terrain though watching where you are going might be a bit nerve-racking. From up on the horse as it walks through loose rocks on a steep descent and you can see and feel his hooves slip, might make it hard to relax and enjoy the scenery.
While some people are drawn to the majestic sight in the Colorado Rockies others are there to climb the rocks, cycle, ride their very loud motorcycles or jog. I would much prefer to ride open and free through the mountains on a trusty horse. A least from this height people are unlikely to get bit by a rattlesnake. If a horse is spooked by the snake and it rears and bolts, the rider best be prepared to hang on tight and say a prayer in a very soothing voice to calm the frightened beast and bring it under control.
This photo really shows off the wild west side of Colorado. I love to ride. Do you? Would you classify yourself as an urbanite or a country person?
