90Days #276 Tomatoes of Another Hue

Tomatoes in green, gold, yellow, orange and even red.

Tomatoes in green, gold, yellow, orange and even red.

This year we planted some save tomato seeds and some seeds from a packet of assorted heirloom tomatoes. The tomatoes came in every shade from green to red and sizes from tiny to huge.

Tomatoes in many colors and shapes

Aren’t tomatoes supposed to be round and red?

We even had some surprising shapes. This fat four lobed beauty is completely ripe. When cut the flesh is the color of kiwi slices and the tomatoes has almost no seeds. It is extremely sweet. When ripe the tomato looks kind of dingy gold. The strange color is the result of a very thin skin of bright orange-yellow over the bright green meat.

Who said tomatoes had to be red and round.

Cheers to fresh vegetables from the garden,

Shez

Your tomatoes are beautiful. Our growing season is so short here it’s hard to grow tomatoes . . . I’ve tried. There is nothing like a fresh home grown tomato. 🙂
