46Days #320 Dinner Time

Anna's Hummingbird comes for a late dinner.

The brilliant red head and lime green body needs bright sun to reflect the color. In the low light of the setting sun the body appears black, the stomach dark grey and the head burgundy.

The brilliant red-head and lime green body needs the bright sun to reflect the color. In the low light of the setting sun the body appears black, the stomach dark grey and the head burgundy. The color was boosted in this photo so that the lines where the color changes do show up. You can see the ruffle at the bottom of the head feathers. The pink of the setting sun is showing up in the tail feathers. They are very tiny at less then 3 inches, about half the size of a chickadee.

This little guy lives here year round. He has become brazen and will even tap on the window to let us know the feeder needs to be filled. He swoops down and chatters at us while we take the feeders down to clean and directs the show when we bring the back out. He’s also very territorial preferring to go hungry rather than share. He frantically chases any humming birds away from all the feeders. My pleads with him to share go completely ignored. He feeds until dark before tucking in for the night.

Cheers to tiny things of beauty,

Shez
